Invest NY: Industry 4.0 - Event Recap PDF Print Email

New York has significant infrastructure and investment in commercializing new technologies in advanced manufacturing, hardware devices, IoT and other related sectors. On March 25 over 100 people from across the country joined Upstate Capital and NYSTAR to celebrate innovations in technologies that power manufacturing into the 21st century at Invest NY: Industry 4.0. Thank you to our event sponsors, NYSTAR, SUNY Research Foundation, GENIUS NY, Grasshopper Bank, Hamilton Lane and Worximity, and the Planning Committee Chair, Sam Ticknor of Union Hill Advisors.

To kick off the show, Keynote speaker Joshua Ness, a Senior Manager at Verizon 5G Labs, discussed how Verizon 5G Labs partners with enterprises, startups and academic teams to drive innovation around 5G concepts. 5G is replacing 4G cellular networks and delivering greater bandwidth and higher download speeds. This opens up new opportunities for many new applications, particularly in advanced manufacturing.

Next, Dave Helgerson, Co-Head of Impact Investments of Hamilton Lane was joined by Jay McHarg, CEO of AeroSafe, Chet Karwatowski, Digital Innovations Leader and Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM and Russel Marvin, CEO of LC Drives in a discussion on 21st Century supply chain in the age of COVID.

Kara Jones the Director Of Communications at the Tech Garden was joined by Craig Marcinkowski, SVP Strategy & BD of Fotokite and Ryan Pleskach, COO of ResilienX to talk about the work Genius NY and their teams are doing to drive industry forward.

Closing our program we had Mimi Lane, President of General Composites Inc., James Shomar, Chief Growth Officer of MACNY and Tim Raven, Managing Director of Worximity Technology Inc. discuss improving profitability in manufacturing in a conversation moderated by Jeffrey Champagne, General Manager of Emerging Categories of Kohler Co.

After the program, select investors and event sponsors hosted networking tables, and unstructured networking was available all day. Over 100 connections were made over our event platform.

The winner of our event game is Robert Hill, the Founder of Harmonigenic Corporation. Robert won a $100 gift certificate to Dinosaur BBQ. Our second and third place winners are Carol Maxwell and Kathi Durdon, and they will receive an Upstate Capital gift box.
