PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE: PERPETUATION + SUCCESSION
Upstate Capital has teamed up with Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley to host an event to bring together members of the business and entrepreneurial communities from across New York to discuss family business perpetuation and succession planning in the Hudson Valley.
Eric Allyn is a 4th generation owner of Welch Allyn, where he is Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Chairman of the company’s Voting Trust. Welch Allyn is a 100-year old Medical Device manufacturer, employing some 2,600 people world-wide. Eric’s Welch Allyn career began in 1982, and included a variety of executive positions worldwide within the operating company, ranging from sales, to marketing, to business development and country management. He was also Managing Director of the Allyn Family Office, before moving to the Board of Directors in 2010. Outside of Welch Allyn, Eric serves on the Board of Directors of GOJO (makers of Purell), Pharma Tech Industries, and Diffinity Genomics. He is also on the Board of Trustees of Auburn Community Hospital (past-Chairman), Hospital Trustees of NYS (Vice Chairman), The Gifford Foundation (Investment Committee Chairman), The Allyn Foundation (Investment Committee Chairman), the NYS Business Council, Family Firm Institute (FFI), and is an LP advisor to Armory Square Ventures. In addition, he is Founder and Managing Partner of two private Investment Funds.

Nick is currently spearheading a major study entitled, Future Unknown: The American Family Business. It is an exploration into the cultural, economic, and technological dynamics now shaping the state of our family businesses. He is also one of the founding members of the new Family Business Consortium at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, NY

Chief Wealth Strategist
Alvina H. Lo is Chief Wealth Strategist at Wilmington Trust. Alvina is responsible for overseeing the wealth planning, strategic advice, and thought leadership services for Wilmington Trust's Wealth Advisory division. She manages a national team of wealth strategists, financial planners, and thought leadership experts, who together, serve as advisors to high-net-worth individuals and families, business owners, entrepreneurs, and foundations and endowments. Alvina was the director and senior wealth planner for Citi Private Bank as an advisor to both U.S. and international ultra-high-net-worth clients of the New York and cross-border markets.
Tomás has more than 15 years of economic development experience in low income communities of Southern California. He applies his finance, new market tax credits, and redevelopment skills to develop creative and innovative economic development solutions for private businesses. Prior to this role, Tomas worked as a Program Manager for the Whittier Redevelopment Agency and Vice President of Real Estate for Genesis LA Economic Growth Corp. In addition to CC, he teaches a class as a part time instructor for the Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California.
